Carson Akers is a middle linebacker who plays with reckless abandon and a non-stop motor. He has excellent speed, athletic ability and quickness. He is an instinctive player at the position. He makes tackles from sideline to sideline; he has great closing speed and a burst to the ball. You really like his style at the inside linebacker position because he is tough and makes plays. He has excellent recognition skills and is in the right place at the right time. He has good body control and change-of-direction skills. He has quick feet and plays with balance and agility. He steps up and fills the hole and shows he can stuff the blocker at the point of attack. He has excellent lateral movement and does a good job of slipping blocks and navigating through the traffic. He takes on blocks well and is a collision-type player. He will no doubt keep improving over time. He is a very good blitzer. He has great timing and shows he can be a disruptive force to deal with. He is an explosive tackler at contact and will try to take your head off. He did a good job on pass coverage. He has good hips and can turn and get good depth on his zone drops. He displays the ability to contribute as a special teams player. Overall, Carson has very good ability for the position and will be very productive at the college level. He is an excellent prospect and could be a contributor as a true freshman.
