SCOUTING REPORTIt's a talented year for backs out of Kentucky and Blake may be the state's biggest home run threat. Blake has top-end acceleration and an extra gear that makes him a threat to pull away on each touch. He excels as an outside cutback runner. He shows patience until the vertical crease opens, then has great upfield explosion off the plant. A bit high-cut for his frame but it doesn't really hinder his lateral movement. Shows very good lateral agility, almost gliding in and out of cuts. He picks and darts his way through traffic and has sharp, controlled footwork to hit the small seams, change direction and make defenders miss at the line of scrimmage. Does a great job taking advantage of overflowing defenders. He has the lateral agility to sidestep and get outside as well. When he gets the corner, it's six. His speed should translate to the college level. He's a game-breaking speedster who will also attack the downhill seam. Shows great burst out of his cuts when he decides to get North and is explosive darting through the first level. Has the speed to get outside and turn the corner. Reaches top speed quickly and that striking speed to power combination produces great yards after contact production. Runs behind his pads and dips his shoulders on contact. Has a low center of gravity and a strong power-base which allows him to absorb the initial blow, retain his balance and continue forward progress.
On defense Blake has all of the physical tools that you look for in a corner: hips, feet, change-of-direction and the ability to make up ground if caught out of position. He plays primarily in a bail technique keying the QB and breaking on the ball when the ball comes his way. Has showed toughness and willingness in run support. He is a good leaper ad will attack the ball in the air on both sides of the ball. Short area quickness and man-to-man cover skills are very impressive. His most dangerous attribute is his ability to make plays as a return man. He naturally has a feel for the crease, awareness of the set-up and where to exploit cover teams. He is sharp and decisive and does not do much dancing. Is a north/south type of runner in the return game and can flip field position in a hurry. His special teams production alone makes him stand out. It will be interesting to see what side of the ball he gets recruited to play on. Very good player with nice speed this explosive football player with polished ball skills will likely find a role on the field quickly.
